Amplify US! Using the Arts to Build Cultural Bridges:  Artists Regie Cabico and Vijay Nathan will share their lives through documentary film, storytelling, slam poetry and visual art. Local performers, trained through Amplify US workshops will also take the stage, to share their stories. The event will conclude with professional facilitator Carolyn Lowery guiding reflections on the stories you’ve heard. Summer Concert at Glen Echo Park: The annual summer concert series features the U.S. Marine Latin Band in the Bumper Car Pavilion Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m.  Glen Echo Park. Click here for more information. Free.

How the Other Half Loves: In partnership with Montgomery Playhouse, Arts on the Green presents this 1969 farce written by Sir Alan Ayckbourn about matrimonial mayhem. This play is recommended for ages 15 and up. A Doll’s House, Part 2: Directed by Nicole Watson, this play written by Lucas Hnath is a sequel to Ibsen’s 1879 masterpiece. The play is set 15 years after Nora Helmer leaves her husband. Helmer is looking for closure with her husband in this sequel. Runs through June 30 at various days and times. Round House production at Lansburgh Theatre, 450 7th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20004. Matilda: Based on the book Matilda by Roald Dahl, this musical follows an unlikely hero: Matilda Wormwood.   Runs from June 21 through July 21 at Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road. For more information, click here. $37-$69.

Behind-the-Scenes: Making Matilda: Join director Peter Flynn and members of his team to discuss how they brought the magical world of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical to life. We’ll talk about the inspirations behind the designs, the stagecraft of Matilda’s powers, and how to cast the right actors to populate a Dahlian world. Rope Rugs for Families: Families with children ages 4-7 create a fun and functional art piece made from fiber. These rope rugs can be displayed on or off the hula hoop loom and on or off the wall. Children will become familiar with over-under weaving technique and develop their motor skills.Each ticket includes one child and one accompanying adult. Additional adults must have tickets.
