County Celebrates National Consumer Protection Week With Virtual Events

Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) and Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will host a variety of virtual informative webinars from Feb. 28 to March 6 for National Consumer Protection Week.

The free webinars aim to help community members understand their consumer rights and decide how to make well-informed decisions regarding their money.  The scheduled webinars include:

Monday, March 1 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Cybersecurity and Internet Safety During the Pandemic
In celebration of National Consumer Protection Week – join us and get tips from the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection on steps to take to safely surf, play and shop online.

Tuesday, March 2 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Community Safety Forum for Seniors and their Families/Friends
Get updates and information from Montgomery County about keeping seniors and others safe.

Wednesday, March 3 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Credit, Debt and Your Rights
In celebration of National Consumer Protection Week, join MCPL and the Office of Consumer Protection for a discussion on debt collection and what to look out for if a debt collector calls.

Thursday, March 4 from noon to 1 p.m.
Understanding Your Credit Report
Understanding your debt and how it can impact your credit report by hearing from two local experts.

Friday, March 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
How to Safely Use Payment Apps
In celebration of National Consumer Protection Week, join MCPL and the Office of Consumer Protection for a presentation on how to use peer-to-peer (P2P) payment systems safely.  P2P payments or money transfer apps — like Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, Cash App.
