County Leaders Raise Progress Flag to Mark Start of Pride Month

Montgomery County leaders marked the start of LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) Pride Month with a flag raising outside the Executive Office Building in Rockville.

This is the third year county leaders are raising a flag for Pride Month, but the first year they are raising the Progress Pride flag, which adds stripes to highlight transgender people and people of color. Councilmember Evan Glass is Montgomery County’s first openly gay councilmember and led the effort to officially recognize June as Pride Month in the jurisdiction.

“We need to make sure that everybody feels safe wherever they are, however they identify and with whomever they are with,” Glass said Monday.

“And it’s these types of positive changes, and this support from friends, allies and members of government that we need to really continue making progress for all members of the LGBTQ+ community.”
