County Unveils Flash Buses Decorated for Valentine’s Day, Announces Contest

This Valentine’s Day, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) hopes you’ll ride its decorated Flash buses to see your loved one. You may even win a prize.

Five of the county’s US 29 Flash buses were decorated with neon heart-shaped lights in honor of the annual celebration of love, the county said.

The Flash valentine lights are our way of thanking our riders,” said County Executive Marc Elrich.

MCDOT also announced a social media contest offering two $50 gift cards. Contestants should post a #LoveFlash valentine on social media, tagging @MCDOTNow and a valentine, for the opportunity to win. The rules of the contest can be found here, MCDOT said.

“I hope that by participating in the #LoveFlash valentine contest, our residents can show their appreciation for Flash,” Elrich said. “And if you and your valentine win the $50 gift cards, you can take Flash to visit one of our many local businesses and restaurants for a wonderful night out.”

The Flash, a bus rapid transit (BRT) service, charges $1 per ride and is free for those with disabilities, youth under 18 and seniors over 65. It also has priority traffic light signaling, dedicated lanes in some areas and pre-boarding payment, MCDOT said.

The Flash buses are a convenient and affordable way to reach some of Montgomery County’s most popular destinations on Valentine’s Day or any time,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “We hope the decorated buses and engagement, online or in person, will encourage our community to try a Flash bus for their next trip along US 29 and learn more about our plans for future Flash corridors.”

The country recently announced additional funding for the Flash network.

We’re building a Flash network that will better connect riders throughout the County with faster, more convenient service,” said Conklin.
