Five Things to Know for Jan. 28 in Montgomery County

It is Tuesday, Jan. 28 and it’s National Data Privacy Day. Celebrate by going through the settings on your web browser and clearing your cookies. While you’re at it, check out your social media settings and review the information you’re agreeing to share with third party applications. The Washington Post made an explainer video to show how to review your privacy matters and why reviewing these settings is important.

Anyway, we digress. Here are five things worth knowing in Montgomery County.

1. Council in Session:  The Montgomery County Council meets at 9:30 a.m. at the council hearing room in Rockville. Here’s a look at the agenda for the meeting.

2. Education Forum in Silver Spring: Councilmember Craig Rice, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith, Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard, and The Universities at Shady Grove Executive Director Stewart Edelstein are hosting a community meeting to present the state of education in the county from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Northwood High School in Silver Spring.

3. HIV Testing: African American Health Program (AAHP) is conducting free and confidential HIV testing at Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

4. Interested in Chamber of Commerce?: The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free orientation with information about getting involved in the chamber from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A light continental breakfast is provided.

5. Behind the Ice Build: Stop by Cabin John Ice Rink in Rockville from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to learn about the science of an ice rink. The event is part of Montgomery Parks’ National Skating Months activities and the event is free. Here’s more information.
