Residents of Wheaton Create Mosaic of Their Past, Present and Future

Bits of colorful glass blossomed into memories of their native Latin American countries, their current lives in Wheaton and their hopes of a grandiose future on the side of a Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) apartment where they live.

The Wheaton Arts Parade unveiled a three-panel mosaic Thursday to the cheers of the artists and residents of the Pembridge Square and Amherst Square Apartments on Blueridge Avenue.

For three months, Wheaton Arts Parade, MHP officials and about 25 residents of all ages got together and created the mosaics. More important, those in attendance formed a community, according to many of those involved.

The work was created several years ago but only displayed now due to the pandemic.

Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-Gonzalez, who represents Wheaton, declared, “I’m so proud. It’s so beautiful.”
