Sullivan Elected President of State Athletic Association

MCPS Athletics Director Dr. Jeffrey Sullivan has been elected as the new president of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA).

The MPSSAA is the governing body that oversees interscholastic high school athletics for 24 public school systems in the state. Dr. Sullivan was nominated by a committee representing all nine districts in Maryland.

Dr. Sullivan has been serving as the President-elect since June 2022. The Board of Control met on Dec. 6 to cast a unanimous vote on his transition to President. He will now help lead the association’s executive council.

“I am honored for this opportunity and looking forward to serving the student-athletes, coaches, programs, and schools across the state of Maryland and working collaboratively with the MPSSAA staff,” Sullivan told MCM.

“I am excited to listen and learn from colleagues and stakeholders to champion education-based athletics and provide the greatest experiences possible for our student-athletes.”“The dynamics of sports continue to evolve at all levels and this will serve as an opportunity to work with leaders around the state to provide new solutions and opportunities for our student-athletes and athletic programs.”
