MoCo March Madness Spotlight: Jordan Hawkins

It’s March Madness and Montgomery County has a few players that will be representing in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Gaithersburg’s very own Jordan Hawkins, a 6’5″ guard at the University of Connecticut, will be someone to look out for this week. He spent his first two years of high school playing for the Gaithersburg Trojans where he averaged 20 points per game his sophomore year leading the Trojans to a 18-3 regular season record. He transferred to DeMatha Catholic High School, became the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year and went on to earn a scholarship to UConn as a top national 75 recruit.

In his first year at UConn, Hawkins made the Big East All-Freshman Team with big games against Auburn (16 points) and Georgetown (15 points) which included a highlight-worthy dunk.

Hawkins and UConn face New Mexico State in their first round matchup Thursday at 6:50 p.m. (approx.) on TNT.
