County Commission Honors 20 Vietnam War Veterans at Civic Building

The Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs is honoring 20 Vietnam War and Era veterans at the Silver Spring Civic Building through the month of May. There will be detailed tributes displayed in the Buffalo Soldiers Great Hall of the building and the tributes are free to view anytime.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is on March 29. Approximately 11,272 county residents are Vietnam War or Era veterans, according to the United States Census Bureau. The county’s records show that 130 residents were killed in Vietnam. All of their names are on the County’s Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Plaza, which was dedicated in 2018.

The detailed tributes of the service members and veterans will include photos, background information and accomplishments from their military careers and after.

The names of the honorees are listed below:

Douglas “Lamar” Allen, Jr.; Everett Alvarez, Jr.; Daniel Bullis; Stephen Campanella; Fred Cherry, Sr.; Michael Cronin; Elwood Gray, Jr.; William “Bill” Gray; Otto “Greg” Hamilton; Arthur Holmes, Jr.; John “Jay”Kenney; Isiah Leggett; Jane McCarthy; Charles McGee; Wayne Miller; Thomas Murphy; Lawrence J. Stark; Michael Subin; Hubert Clifford Walker, Jr. and Michael Walsh.
