Meet the Finalists: Black in Business Awards Celebrate Local Entrepreneurs

Montgomery Community Media hosted Meet the Finalists: Sip and Savor – an introduction to the upcoming inaugural Black in Business Awards last Thursday. The event honors Black business owners across Montgomery County. The awards ceremony takes place in November and aims to recognize excellence, leadership, and community impact among local entrepreneurs.

An Evening of Connection and Celebration

Sip and Savor brought together an inspiring group of finalists who have gone through a rigorous selection process to be recognized as “best in class” business owners. It offered a preview of the upcoming awards and a chance for finalists to network, connect, and share their stories.

Host Bola Audena spoke about the importance of uplifting local business owners who are making a difference every day. “We have some amazing businesses, some amazing entrepreneurs in our county, within our communities, just doing great things. They’re making a difference in the lives of their clients, in their own families, but also in the community.”

Voices of the Finalists

A few of the finalists shared their excitement and gratitude for being part of the inaugural awards.

Quinton Wilder, who co-owns The Oaks Bed and Breakfast with his wife Sharon Jackson Wilder, said the recognition means a lot to them and the community they serve. “This is an indication that we’re doing a good thing,” Wilder said.

Another finalist, Michael J. Charles reflected on what it means to be acknowledged among so many talented peers. “It’s an honor, actually. There’s a significant amount of success from the African American community; to be a part of that is humbling and encouraging.

The Black in Business Awards will officially take place on November 20th, 6 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Gaithersburg.
