Montgomery College and Adventist HealthCare agreed to work together to offer scholarships, mentoring and career opportunities to increase the number of nurses ready to work in Montgomery County.

The eight-year alliance centers on Adventist Health Care, which is headquartered in Olney, providing guest lectures, internships and shadow programs for students in the associate science degree in nursing and other health sciences.

Montgomery Councilmember Natali Fani-González posted that she was “thrilled” with the new partnership.

About 500 students are enrolled annually in the college’s program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

“Montgomery College is proud to be partnering with Adventist HealthCare to advance nursing education in Maryland,” said MC President Jermaine F. Williams. “The scholarships, mentoring, and internships from Adventist will support our talented nursing students in their progress towards associate’s degrees. Collaborations like this help fill workforce demands in critical areas such as nursing.”

“We are pleased to partner with Montgomery College in offering excellent and accessible education to ensure the next generation of nurses are fully prepared to provide compassionate, high-quality care,” said Terry Forde, Adventist HealthCare President and CEO. “This is one of the many innovative ways we look to improve both the quality of care and patient outcomes throughout our region as part of our mission to extend hope and healing in our community.”

The first round of scholarships go to newly enrolled nursing students this fall. Eligible students must live in Montgomery or Prince George’s counties and remain in good academic standing.
