Virtual Forum will Provide Resources for Mental Health, Substance Use Prevention

A virtual forum on May 9 will focus on different pathways to healing from mental health and substance use disorders.

The forum — which will run from 6 to 8 p.m. — will include links and educational resources for mental health and substance use prevention, intervention and treatment. It’s hosted by the county’s Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction Advisory Council, the Mental Health Advisory Council and the Citizen’s Review Panel for Children.

Members of the county’s Youth Ambassador Program will lead other younger attendees in their own session before rejoining adults in the main forum for a live question and answer panel.

Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) students who attend the full two-hour event are eligible for student service-learning hours if they provide a parent or guardian consent form, student ID, grade and school name.

“Discussions and conversations are essential parts of the solution to reduce youth substance misuse and address mental health concerns,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release.  “This annual forum is a good opportunity for teens and adults to learn about the resources and support available and to offer their experiences and suggestions. I urge residents to take advantage of the free virtual event.”

Event registration and more information is available here.
