On Thursday, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) opened a new food pantry at an elementary school.
The pantry at Weller Road Elementary in Silver Spring will serve as a consistent food source for families. This is the fourth food pantry at an MCPS community school, which is a school that provides wraparound services.
The pantry will be open twice a week and by request. It will offer shelf-stable items and fresh produce.
According to MCPS, schools in the pantry program can choose food items that fit the needs of their communities. This pantry is a partnership between MCPS, the Capital Area Food Bank, Montgomery County Food Council and Manna Food Center.
