Organization Gets Funding to Create Mobile Mental Health Unit for Schools

A health and social wellness agency received funding to expand a school-based community mental health program.

The Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA) received a $2.5 million grant to expand its MindCraft program in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), per a release.

The grant includes the creation of a mobile mental health unit that will go to schools to provide “much-needed space for mental health sessions with students during the school day.”

According to the release, the mobile unit is the first of its kind in Montgomery County.

The funding allows the organization to provide mental health services directly in 75 schools, an increase from 39 schools last year. Also, the expanded program offers services to more than 1,500 homeless MCPS students.

The grant was awarded from the the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission and the Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports.
