Police Department Marks 100th Anniversary With Time Capsule

On Thursday, law enforcement officials, government leaders and community members gathered at the Red Brick Courthouse in Rockville to mark Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) 100th anniversary.

Police Chief Marcus Jones unveiled a 25-year-old time capsule, which was buried for the police department’s 75th anniversary. It included a flashlight, polaroid camera and police patches. A new capsule will be buried, to contain a mobile data computer, taser, body camera and face mask.

In 1922, MCPD consisted of a chief and five officers. Now, there are 1,300 sworn officers in the department.
