UPDATE: Two Students Arrested After Being Found With BB Gun, Ammunition

Two 15-year old males were arrested following Montgomery County police officers’ investigation of a gun at Northwood High School in Rockville Thursday.

One student is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds. Both are charged with disruption of school operations. They were taken to the 2nd District station and then released to their families.

At about 11 a.m., police responded to the 11200 block of Old Georgetown Road following a report of a person with a gun. As a result, Northwood High was placed in a secure status, meaning all external doors were locked while normal campus activities continued and no one could go in or go out without a security screening.

Police stopped “persons of interest” and then determined the weapon was a toy, so the secure status was lifted. No arrests were made.

Then at 12:21 p.m. while officers were still at the school, they received a report of a student that might have been in possession of a firearm inside the school. Northwood then was placed in lockdown.

School administrators and police Community Engagement Officers located two students in a room inside of the building. A gun magazine was observed on a desk near one of the students. During a search, officers recovered a BB gun from one student and found a live 9mm round in the pocket of the other.
