17-Year-Old Jogger Escapes Attempted Assault on Beach Drive

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police is investigating after a 17-year-old girl was assaulted Wednesday while jogging on Beach Drive.

Police say the “attempted sexual assault” happened at the intersection of Leland Street around 2:30 p.m. An unknown man in a white car reportedly approached her, asked if she wanted a ride, and she responded saying she did not. Police say the man then exited his car, grabbed her, and attempted to sexually assault her. The young woman was able to fight the man off, who then ran back to his car and fled the scene.

The victim described the man as having dreadlocks, wearing all-white clothing, and in his 20’s. Anyone who has additional information is asked to contact the Park Police Tip Line at 301-920-2748.
