I & You: The Musical
May 23, 2026 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832, USAIn 2015, Olney Theatre produced the Rolling World Premiere of I And You by Lauren Gunderson, which went on to become one of the most-produced plays in America. Now, we’re bringing you the World Premiere of the musical adaptation of her hit play. Anthony turns up in Caroline’s bedroom one night bearing waffle fries, a beat-up book, and a homework assignment they’re supposed to do together: explore Walt Whitman’s poem “Song of Myself.” Chronically sick, Caroline hasn’t been to school in a while… and can’t even remember meeting some kid named Anthony, which dials up both her suspicions and her “snark-o-meter.” But as the two get to know each other, they finally learn of the deeper mystery that brought them together. Whitman’s powerful poetry inspires the music and lyrics by American Idol veteran Ari Afsar, which expands the magic of Gunderson’s remarkable story.

Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Working in predominantly oil, Byrnes has produced works that explore the light and structure of urban Washington DC, the Virginia and Maryland country side, as well as the inlets, bay, ocean and marshlands of Southern New Jersey. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. Her paintings are about the moment, the immediacy of paint applied honestly, thickly and emotionally on canvas. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Sexual Tensions: Nightmares and Daydreams”
Mini-Solo for Inge Burman(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios is pleased to host John Thomas Paradiso for the month of June. The exhibit will run from June 5th through June 24th, with a First Friday opening on June 5th from 5-8pm. John Paradiso’s work is an ongoing exploration of identity. It is influenced by the impact of the AIDS epidemic, internal and external homophobia, sexual desire, romantic love, and growing old. At times, the work is a statement about his experiences navigating a sex–positive lifestyle among a prevalence of sex-negative messages. At other times, the work is his way to honor my feminine side while striving to be more masculine. In this Exhibition, “Sexual Tensions: Nightmares and Daydreams, Paradiso is showing works made over several decades. He wants to share his earlier works with his peers, as this work is foundational to his development as an artist. The early work focuses on his relationship to HIV and AIDS, his love relationships, and his work with People Living with AIDS and HIV. His later works are a more general exploration of gay male sexual Identity. Inge Berman shares a mini-solo exhibit in the Lounge Gallery and Resident Artists exhibit in the Gallery Hall. Enjoy the sculptural work of Francis Maduka Uduh in studio 11, along with nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists exhibiting their latest work. Pick up a handmade piece of art and support local working artists, makers, and professionals. Light fare generously sponsored each month by The Chesapeake Framing Company.

MS Ice-Cream-A-Thon
June 20, 2026 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
XWJ2+JV3, 7111 Bethesda Ln, Bethesda, MD 20814, USAThe 2026 MS Ice-Cream-A-Thon is an annual charity event benefitting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This will be our 14th Annual Ice-Cream-A-Thon, but our first hosted in downtown Bethesda (and we can't wait!). The Ice-Cream-A-Thon is for ice cream lovers, and fun-loving and supportive families. The Ice-Cream-A-Thon features a family friendly two hour long event where we walk to three ice cream shops and eat ice cream at each shop. It's an amazing way to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of the summer (bathing suits be damned ;-). In order to participate in the ice-cream-a-thon, we ask that each participant raise at least $60 for charity (and we do have a limited number of family registrations as well for larger families). ALL money raised is donated directly to charity (the sponsor of this event pays for all of the ice-cream out of pocket - as his donation) - thus EVERY dollar raised goes to charity. Please register at www.icecreamathon.com - and then help spread the word.
