3 arrested for February street takeover

Three suspects were arrested for the February street takeover that went from Prince George’s County into Montgomery County.

A 17-year-old, 18-year-old, and 20-year-old were charged, according to Montgomery County police.

A 17-year-old from Laurel was charged and released to a guardian. The teen is charged with:

  • disorderly conduct
  • malicious destruction of property
  • failure to obey lawful orders
  • hindering

According to police, Ayden Joseph Cline, 18, of Cumberland, Pennsylvania, was on the back of a police car holding a lit flare. He is charged with:

  • reckless endangerment
  • disorderly conduct
  • malicious destruction of property
  • failure to obey lawful orders
  • obstruction and hindering

According to police, Novorriya Gregory Smith Jr., 20, from Calvert County, is accused of smashing the window of a police car and exposing himself to the officer. He is charged with:

  • reckless endangerment
  • disorderly conduct
  • malicious destruction of property
  • failure to obey lawful orders
  • obstruction and hindering
  • indecent exposure

Cline and Smith Jr. are being held without bond.

February Street Takeover Event

Past midnight on Feb. 22, police were notified about a large group of cars that were part of a street takeover.

According to police, the drivers moved from P.G. County into Silver Spring and then gathered in Chevy Chase at East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue. They blocked traffic and did donuts. People got out of their cars, stood in the intersection, and stopped police from coming into the area.

Two police cars were damaged. No officers were injured, but one officer was in the car when a rear window was broken and the windshield shattered.

Another Takeover

A teen was arrested for a shooting during a recent car rally in Kensington, according to police.

Police say Hermes Matewere, 19, allegedly shot two people inside a parking garage during a car rally and street takeover at the Kensington Safeway on Connecticut Avenue.

Police released surveillance video of the shooting.

He is charged with two counts of first-and-second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and firearms violations, including possession of a firearm by a minor, according to police. He is being held without bond.
