5 Things to Know Today, April 17, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, April 17 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to expect partly cloudy skies with a high temp in the 60s.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1:30 p.m to discuss the Council’s review of the recommended operating budget and other council matters. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a regular session (both in-person and virtual). The meeting agenda and information packet is available online. A vote on the zoning amendment for the Lakeforet Mall site property is expected. The Poolesville Town Commissioners meet at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall. The agenda may be found online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda with supporting documents is available online.

3. Budget Discussion: County Executive Marc Elrich continues with his community discussions about the Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) budget. Tonight he will be at the Silver Spring Civic Building from 7-8:30 p.m. to meet with residents from the Silver Spring region.

4. College Fair: The annual national college fair takes place Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19 at the soccerplex in Germantown. Representatives from nearly 300 colleges and universities will be available for students in Grade 11 and their parents.

5. Conversation with Lisa Ann Walter: Blair High School alum Lisa Ann Walter was our guest on MoCo’s Most Famous podcast. Walter plays the tough, but fair Melissa Schemmenti on the sitcom Abbott Elementary.
