1. County wastes time, money by relying on paper checks: By paying bills mostly by check, Montgomery County pays almost five times as much per transaction in fees and exposes itself to the risk of fraud. That’s according to a report issued by the county’s Office of Inspector General. The OIG recommends use of an electronic system instead.

2. Virtual author talk: At 2 p.m., Montgomery County Public Libraries will host Smithsonian Curator Emerita Valerie Neal for a virtual talk on the history of U.S. woman astronauts. Register here
