It’s Tuesday, Aug. 25, and here are five things to know for the first day of public school in Montgomery County. Check the weather forecast here.
1. First Day of School for MCPS: Today is the first day of school for all Montgomery County Public Schools students. Monday was transition day for students entering kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade.
2. Cell Phone Policy: This school year, MCPS will go “bell to bell” with no cell phones in all schools, including high schools.
3. Back to School Rules of the Road: Yellow school buses will be arriving in neighborhoods all over the county. Check out the “do’s and don’ts” for drivers around school buses.
4. Last ‘First Day’ for Wootton at Wootton: Today is set to be the last first day of school for Wootton High School in Rockville, before student and staff are moved to the new Crown High School in Gaithersburg next school year. But, parents have challenged the relocation, and the case has been referred to the Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH).
5. MCPS Boundary Studies for Elementary, Middle School Closures: Montgomery County Public Schools officials announced there will be a new boundary study to include potential school closures, this time for elementary and middle schools.
