1. Free Pet Adoptions: On Saturday and Sunday, the county’s animal shelter in Derwood will waive adoption fees as part of NBCUniversal Local’s 2026 “Clear the Shelters” pet adoption campaign. See more here
2. Overdose Awareness Ceremony: On Saturday, this year’s International Overdose Awareness Day remembrance ceremony in Rockville will feature a new one-mile run/walk/roll. The ceremony event is 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the plaza between the Executive Office Building and the Circuit Court. Staging for the run will begin at Monroe and East Jefferson streets in the former bank parking lot. See more here
3. Back-to-School Block Party: From 12-3 p.m. Saturday on Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring, there will be a free back-to-school bash for families featuring raffles, a DJ, a Marvel character appearance, a balloon artist and activities. See more here
