5 Things to Know Today, Feb. 12, In Montgomery County

1. Spring Recreation: Registration for spring county recreation programs and activities begins today.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. today. Friedson is expected to recap the Feb. 8 joint Audit and Education and Culture Committee meeting about the Office of Inspector General’s report on Montgomery County Public Schools and discuss next steps. Watch today’s briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Council Committee Meetings: Three committees meet today, the agenda may be found here. Committee meetings are televised live on County Cable Montgomery and streamed live at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/ondemand/index.html.

  • The Economic Development and the Planning, Housing & Parks committees hold a joint meeting at 9:30 a.m. to a briefing on life science land use.
  • At 11 a.m., the Economic development committee meets and will receive a briefing on the third quarter economic indicators for the county from the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation.
  • The Planning, Housing & Parks committee meets at 1:45 p.m.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council met at 7 p.m. at City Hall with a full agenda.

5. ICYMI: In an interview with MCM, Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller reflected on her first year in office, her partnership with Gov. Wes Moore, and her journey in becoming the first woman of color and immigrant elected to her position here in Maryland.
