It’s Tuesday, July 15, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County. Check today’s weather forecast here.
1. MCM Hosts Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camp: 40 young people will spend the week at MCM learning all about sports broadcasting. On Monday, Bram Weinstein, radio play by play announcer for the Washington Commanders, told campers about his “dream job” that includes lots of research and practicing to correctly pronounce players’ names.
2. Council: The county council will meet today starting at 9 a.m. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube @MoCoCouncilMD.
3. Capital Bikeshare Prices: On Friday, Aug. 1, Capital Bikeshare will update its pricing model for some users and trips.
4. Battling Fires in the Heat: Imagine what it’s like for a firefighter to battle fires when the thermometer hits 80, 90 or even 100 degrees. Members of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) deal with these conditions on a daily basis in the summer. MCM spoke with MCFRS Spokesman Pete Piringer about the difficult task firefighters face.
5. ICYMI: Swimmers with disabilities have a new option in the county. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Outdoor Pool in White Oak was renovated to make it more accessible. MCM was at the pool to see the new features, including new pool lifts so wheelchair users and others with disabilities can enjoy all areas of the pool.
