5 Things to Know Today, July 3, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, July 3 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to expect showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon that may be severe. High temperature forecast to reach 90 degrees.

1. Open Parkways Extended Hours: Monday and Tuesday, portions of Beach Drive, Sligo Creek Parkway and Little Falls Parkway are closed to motor vehicles.

2. Ride On ‘Courtesy Stops’: Metrobus, as well as the county Ride On bus services, now offer late night bus riders courtesy stops starting at 9 p.m. This new service gives riders the option to get off the bus between the usual designated stops and closer to their destination.

3. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council do not meet this week.

4. Police K-9 Unit: Meet K-9 Officer Andrew Richardson and his partner Axel.

5. (ICYMI) Rent Control: The council’s Planning, Housing and Parks committee moved forward last week with a bill to cap rent increases in the county. Now the full council will consider the bill.
