5 Things to Know Today, June 23, In Montgomery County

Today is Friday, June 23 and we should expect heavy rain and thunderstorms. Here are 5 things to know.

1. Second Annual Senior Barbecue: The county recreation department expects more than 700 residents to attend Friday’s second annual barbecue for those 55 years and older. The gathering takes place at the Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg. Registration is full.

2. Friday Night Concert: The Vi-Kings rock band performs in Downtown Bethesda tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the corner of Norfolk and Del Ray Avenues. Norfolk Avenue is closed to cars from Del Ray to St. Elmo Avenue.

3. Rockville Pride: The city of Rockville will host Rockville Pride Day for all ages from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 in the Rockville Town Square.

4. Pride in the Plaza Festival: Montgomery County’s annual celebration of diverse LGBTQIA+ communities takes place Sunday, June 25 at from noon-8 p.m. The location is Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring.

5. Behind the Scenes in the Police Canine Unit: MCM’s Andrea Sarralde talked with Police Officer Andrew Richardson about what it means to work in the county’s specialized canine unit.
