5 Things to Know Today, March 18, In Montgomery County

1. Kindergarten Registration: Children who will be five years old by Sept 1 are eligible to start Kindergarten in the new school year. The Montgomery County Public Schools’ ParentVue portal opens today for Kindergarten registration. The school district is taking a ‘different approach’ to kindergarten registration.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled today at 11:30 a.m. Friedson is expected to discuss the Council’s forthcoming work on the County Executive’s $7.1 billion Fiscal Year 2025 Recommended Operating Budget and answer questions from the media. 3. Congressional High School Art Competition: One week remains for high school students who live in the Eighth Congressional District to submit artwork.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Here is the agenda. The public may join both meetings in person or virtually.

5. Connect with Councilmembers: Residents now have an new centralized way to contact Councilmembers. Friday, March 15, the County Council launched a new web intake form to help residents easily and quickly direct their questions or provide their view to the councilmembers.

5. Gaithersburg Seeks Volunteer Fixers: Gaithersburg wants to help residents dispose less and fix more. The city will host a Fix-It Fair on June 1 and is recruiting volunteer fixers. Anyone interested should email the city by March 18. Learn more here.
