1. Summer Rec Programs: Registration for county summer recreation programs opens today.
2. MCPS Updates Cell Phone Policy: Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has updated its cell phone policy for the next school year. Elementary and middle school students must keep their phones off and away during the entire school day, but high school students can use their phones during lunch and between classes.
3. Pulitzer Winner Dave Barry Headlines GBF: Bestselling humorist Dave Barry will present his latest book on Saturday, May 17 at the Gaithersburg Book Festival (GBF). He joins more than 130 other authors at the free event.

4. Council Meeting: The county council will meet today starting at 11:15 a.m. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube @MoCoCouncilMD. In the afternoon session beginning at 1:30 p.m. the Council will get public reaction to the proposed income tax increase in the County Executive’s budget.
5. ICYMI: U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-District 8) hosted a reception last week to announce the winner and runners-up of his district’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition.
