1. Flood Watch: The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood watch for Montgomery County and surrounding areas until 6 a.m. today. Heavy rain could lead to flooding.
2. Women, Minority-Owned Boxing Gym Strives To Keep People Fit: The thump, thump of boxing glove meeting punching bag permeates the gym at Fight Into Fitness in Rockville, where boxers are of ages and levels go to train and build community. Being women of color made co-owners Angel McNamara and Makeda Richardson’s journey from beginning sparring to owning their own gym harder but in the end prouder.
3. Gaithersburg Book Festival: New York Times bestselling author and master of suspense Jeffery Deaver will present his latest novel, “South of Nowhere (A Colter Shaw Novel)”, at the Gaithersburg Book Festival this Saturday, May 17. He joins more than 130 other featured authors at the event.
