1. Juneteenth Festival: The Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival — said to be the largest Juneteenth celebration in the DMV — returns next month with six days of events honoring Black history and freedom.
2. Ride On Food Drive: The county’s annual Ride On Food Drive will take place through Saturday, May 31.
3. Council: The County Council is in recess until June 9. Last week, the council unanimously approved a $7.6 billion operating budget.
4. Recycling Awards: Residents and teams who are committed to waste reduction were honored during the 26th annual Recycling Achievement Recognition Awards last week. Awardees included students who are working to advance sustainability.
