5 Things to Know Today, May 8, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, May 8 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to expect cloudy skies early with some sun and high temperatures in the upper 70s.

1. Montgomery College ArtWalk: Today is the last day to visit the Montgomery College Rockville Campus to see the sidewalk decals created by 170 art students under the guidance of professional artist Natan Diacon-Furtado.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1 p.m. to discuss the Council’s budget deliberations and other council business. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Council Budget Worksession: The Council continues working on the county budget this afternoon with a worksession at 1:30 p.m. The session will be broadcast live and streamed on YouTube. Watch below:

4. Purple Line Construction: Excavation and blasting continue this week at the work zone on Elm Street near Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. Blasting is limited to weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. A warning horn will sound three times in advance of each blast. Find additional construction updates on the MTA website here.

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda with supporting documents is available online.

And One More Thing: May is Building Safety Month. Both the County and the City of Gaithersburg will inspect residential decks at no cost during the month.
