5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 23, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Oct. 23 and here are five things to know. Check the weather forecast here.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass’ weekly media briefing is scheduled for today at 1 p.m. Watch today’s briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Council: The Education and Culture committee meets jointly with the Public Safety Committee at 9:30 a.m. Find the agenda here. The Economic Development committee meets at 9:30 a.m.; here’s the agenda.  The Planning, Housing, and Parks Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. to review the Fairland Briggs Chaney Master Plan. The Transportation and Environment committee meets also at 1:30 p.m. with this agenda.

3. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda with supporting documents is available online.

4. Advanced Audio Workshop:  There is still time to register for our workshop, “Advanced Audio: Mastering Sound Production“, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, at our Silver Spring Media Lab.

5. Art in the Park: When an old oak split on Kensington’s Beach Drive, urban foresters decided to leave it in place and give it a new life. A crowd gathered Oct. 11 to see the unveiling of a whimsical carving by chainsaw master Colin Vale.
