5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 9, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Oct. 9 and here are five things to know. The Federal government and Maryland observe Indigenous Peoples Day today. Montgomery County government offices are open.

1. No School: There is no school today for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students but teachers and staff report for a professional day. The county’s recreation’s Kids Day Out and Teen Days Out programs offer free, structured activities at numerous recreation centers. Find more information here. Registration is required and many are full for today.

2. Bill Signing: County Executive Elrich will sign Bill 18-22, known as the Leaf Blower Bill, today at a noon ceremony. The signing is set for Veteran’s Plaza in Rockville, next to the Executive Office Building.

3. Council President Briefing: Council President Even Glass’ weekly media briefing is scheduled for today at 1 p.m. Glass plans to provide an overview of his recent trip to the Daejeon Innopolis Forum in South Korea. Daejeon, a city of over a million people, is one of the county’s sister cities. Watch the briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found here.

5. County Wellness Clinic Opens: The county will begin providing sexual health services at the new Upcounty Sexual Health and Wellness clinic in Germantown today. The facility will be free or low cost and no one will be turned away based on their ability to pay. Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 240.777.1609.
