5 things to know today, Sept. 11, in Montgomery County

It’s Friday, Sept. 11, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County for the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

1. 9/11 Memorial & Museum Ceremony: People can watch the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s live broadcast of its commemoration ceremony at 8:40 a.m. Watch the ceremony here

2. Remembering Local Lives Lost: 11 people from Montgomery County died on 9/11:

3. Rockville Ceremony: At 9 a.m., there will be a Sept. 11 community remembrance ceremony at Courthouse Square Park in Rockville. See more here

4. Kensington Ceremony: At 7 p.m., there will be a remembrance ceremony at the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department 9/11 Memorial at 10620 Connecticut Ave. See more here

5. Last Year’s Tribute: In 2025, community members paid tribute to firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11. At Rio in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County firefighters and other participants climbed stairs in a parking garage until they reached the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.
