5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 25, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 25 and here are five things to know. Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, is observed today. It is the holiest day on the Jewish calendar and many will fast and pray. G’mar Hatimah Tovah to all celebrating.

1. No School: There is no school today for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). The school district reminds families that student summer SSL hours should be turned into the school SSL coordinator by Friday, Sept. 29.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Even Glass’ weekly media briefing, typically scheduled for Monday, will take place Tuesday at noon. Glass plans to discuss new legislation that would require gun retailers to provide information to gun purchasers on suicide prevention, firearm safety and conflict resolution.

3. The Little Mermaid Movie: Gaithersburg Library screens The Little Mermaid (2023) at 2 p.m. Sing along to the Disney live action movie, enjoy snacks and play Movie Bingo. The library is located at 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue. The activity is appropriate for children from preschool through middle school/

4. Takoma Metro Station Event:  County Ride On staff will greet riders outside the Takoma Metro Station today from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Stop by and meet Ride On staff to learn about free transportation for older adults and persons with disabilities and the Kids Ride Free program.

5. (ICYMI) Lisa Ann Walter Visits Blair HS: Actor and Montgomery Blair High School alumna Lisa Ann Walter stopped by her alma mater to speak to current students and staff.
