It’s Friday, Sept. 26, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County. There are several events happening this weekend. Check the weather forecast here.
1. Buckets and Beats: Today is an early release day for Montgomery County Public Schools, and after dismissal, middle and high school students can attend a free youth block party from 2-6 p.m. at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. County Council President Kate Stewart hosts the “Buckets and Beats” event with the Silver Spring Regional Services Office. There will be basketball and pickleball tournaments, arts activities, a DJ, free food, and prizes.

2. Back to School Block Party: Another option for students after Friday’s early release day is the Back to School Block Party from 1-4 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. County Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe hosts the event. See more here.
3. Rocktobierfest: Rockville’s Oktoberfest-style event is Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. along Maryland and East Montgomery avenues. Two music stages will feature Bavarian sounds and traditional German tunes. There will be a variety of food including German sausages such as bratwurst, along with drinks from local breweries.

4. Wheaton Arts Parade: The 9th annual Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival is Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Grandview and Ennalls avenues. The festival area, which is around Marian Fryer Town Plaza and Grandview Avenue, opens at 10 a.m. Performances are 12 p.m.-5 p.m. See more here.
5. Taste of Rio: The 3rd annual Taste of Rio is 2-6 p.m. Sunday in Gaithersburg. Tickets are sold in $5 increments and can be purchased online or on-site. See more here.
