1.“Speak Up, Save a Life” Student Video Contest Opens Today: The annual “Speak Up, Save a Life” student video contest hosted by the county’s State’s Attorney’s Office opens for entries today. The contest challenges 6th-12th graders in Montgomery County to create a video to raise awareness about the risks of drug misuse and the dangers of fentanyl.
Montgomery County Public Schools students can earn 10 SSL hours for entering the contest. The top prize is $5,000; second place is $3,000; third place and fan-favorite winners will receive $1,000. Entries are due Nov. 30. Entry form here
2. Registration for Winter Youth Basketball: At 8:30 p.m., Montgomery County Recreation opens registration for its winter youth basketball programs. Register here
3. Council President Briefing: At 12:30 p.m. in Rockville, County Council President Natali Fani-González will hold a briefing to provide an update about council deliberations on the future of the incinerator/waste disposal system, discuss affordable housing and highlight the county’s tourism opportunities to spur economic growth. The briefing is open to the public. It will be posted on the Council’s Facebook page and YouTube channel after conclusion. 5. ICYMI: Butler’s Orchard’s 46th annual Pumpkin Festival is underway in Germantown. This year’s festival runs through Nov. 1, and is open for visitors Wednesdays through Sundays until 6 p.m.
