The Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival — said to be the largest Juneteenth celebration in the DMV — returns next month with six days of events honoring Black history and freedom.
Scotland AME Zion Church leaders, county leaders, and community partners held a press conference Thursday announcing highlights of the third annual festival.
The festival — which runs June 14-19 — raises money for organizations in the county, particularly those benefiting underserved communities.
Some highlights of the Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival include:
- Opening night headlined by Grammy-winning gospel artist Erica Campbell
- Remarks from Congressman Jamie Raskin at the June 19 Opening Ceremony
- “Taste of Juneteenth” food demonstrations and tastings by chefs including “CHOPPED” winner Chef Sammy Davis Jr.
- June 19 festival at Cabin John Regional Park featuring a parade
- Clarence “Pint” Isreal Baseball Classic commemorative game
- Juneteenth fireworks
