9 Students Earn National Merit Scholarships in Final Round of Awards

Nine Montgomery County students in the class 0f 2023 have earned college and university-sponsored National Merit Scholarships in the latest and final round of awards from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Awardees are selected by each sponsoring college or university from a group of finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. The awards provide recipients between $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

The winners, their intended career fields and the sponsoring university or college are:

  • Nathan X. Li, computer science, University of Maryland

Walter Johnson

  • Joseph Kim, neuroscience, University of Maryland
  • Emily E. Paranzino, neuroscience, University of Maryland
  • Ella Tzeng, education, Pomona College

Poolesville

  • Anya Sophie Olson, conservation, University of Maryland

Private School Scholars

Holton-Arms School

  • Maya Naomi Lall, medicine, Bowdoin College
