GreenFest Returns to Wheaton with Eco-Friendly Fun

GreenFest, Montgomery County’s largest environmental festival, returns Saturday, April 26, in Wheaton.

Part of the county’s Earth Month celebration, the festival offers activities for all ages and promotes eco-friendly living.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) organizes the event with support from public agencies and nonprofit partners.

This year’s festival features electric vehicles, live music, children’s activities, green businesses and more.

GreenFest 2025 also honors local environmental heroes with the Eco Hero awards. The winners include three individuals, a nonprofit and a business:

  • Individual Award – Carolyn Gupta
  • Individual Award – Carmen Hernandez
  • Nonprofit Award – Charles Koiner Farm Conservancy for Urban Farming
  • Business Award – Gardenology
  • Youth Award – Rose Clemons-Cope

DEP will offer a battery recycling station. Attendees can drop off used alkaline and certain rechargeable batteries for special handling.

The new drop-off option supports the county’s Aiming for Zero Waste goal and helps reduce the risk of trash fires.

GreenFest runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton. Admission is free.
