Celebrating Pride Year Round in Montgomery County

On County Executive Marc Elrich’s weekly media briefing, he had Dr. Amena Johnson, the county’s LGBTQ Community Liaison, discuss events happening for Pride Month in Montgomery County, as well as year-round support.

Year-round and outside of Pride Month opportunities supporting the LGBTQ community:

  • T4T Zoom Support Group
    • This peer support group for trans individuals 18+ meets every Wednesday from 6 pm-8 pm
  • MD Trans*Unity
    • This support group meets on the first Sunday of each month from 2 pm-3:30 pm. Their next meeting will be Sunday, July 6.
    • Location: Mattie’s Peace Room 50 Monroe Place Rockville, MD, 20850
  • Hope and Support Circle
    • Dr. Johnson runs this group. They meet every Thursday from 7 pm-8 pm via Zoom for LGBTQ+ individuals to have a space to come together.
    • Dr. Johnson describes the importance of these groups. She explains that these meetings, “Mainly try to focus on hope and joy and the wonderful things that are going on,” as well as discussing, “What’s going on in the community…but we try to keep hope because that is what’s important.”

Elrich reaffirms his strong support and drive to keep LGBTQ individuals safe all year long. He acknowledges, “The national temperature has made a lot of the work that’s being done much more difficult than it was just a few months ago.”

In response to the Trump administration’s cuts to the national LGBTQ crisis hotline, Elrich said, “Cutting off support in the middle of a mental health crisis is cruel, and it’s dangerous,” and called for allies to show up for members of the LGBTQ community during this difficult time.
