Trader Joe’s grocery store is now open at the Square (formerly known as Rockville Town Square) in Rockville.
Their newest store is on North Washington Street, where Dawson’s Market was located before closing last year.
“They make great food, and we’ve been looking forward to having such an accessible partner coming into the city,” Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton told MCM on Thursday.
“It’s going to be really energizing, I think that our people are really excited about it.”
A grand opening was scheduled for last Thursday morning but the opening was delayed due to mechanical issues at the store.
Known for their unique snacks, international frozen foods and bell ringing cashiers, it joins the nearly 600 stores nationwide. The first store opened its doors in 1967 in Pasadena, California.
Montgomery County can claim 6 Trader Joe’s. Shoppers can find them in Bethesda (2), Rockville (3), and Silver Spring.
