Metro Expands Red Line, Silver Line Service

Metro announced that they will expand weekend hours and increase train frequency on select lines during peak ridership times from June 22 onward.

Service is set to expand across the Metrorail system on weekends, per the release. On Fridays and Saturdays, service will close at 2 a.m. Service will open at 6 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays; first and last train times will vary by station, so riders are encouraged to monitor train times using the WMATA Trip Planner. Stations will open 10 minutes before the first train arrives.

Red Line trains will run every 4 to 5 minutes during weekday rush hours. WMATA designates the morning rush between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and the afternoon-evening rush between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. according to their official timetable.

Silver Line service is also set to expand, with every other train running to New Carrollton, the Orange Line terminus, instead of Downtown Largo. Silver Line service eastbound from Wiehle-Reston to New Carrollton will increase during peak morning hours, and trains westbound from Stadium-Armory to Wiehle-Reston will increase during the afternoon rush.
