Garrett Park Man Charged With Mailing Threatening Communications to Jewish Organizations

Clift A. Seferlis, 55, of Garrett Park, was arrested and charged with mailing threatening communications to Jewish organizations.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, from at least March 1, 2024 to the present, Seferlis is believed to have sent numerous mail that included threats to Jewish institutions and contained references to Gaza, Israel or events in which Jews were killed or attacked.

“The letters then suggest that the recipients might become victims of similar acts of violence,” according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

One of these communications came from a typewritten letter, postmarked in Philadelphia, on May 7, 2025 and said, in part, “The hatred toward you all, your [institution], and especially the nation of Israel is at an all time high and is only getting worse. Do you – deep down – reallycare [sic] – really – about what is going on in Gaza? Will it take something happening to your beloved [institution] to make that happen.”

That institution, which the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not name, received numerous messages that contained threats to physically destroy it. One letter noted the building’s “many big windows.”

The Montgomery County Police as well as the FBI Philadelphia, with assistance from FBI Baltimore, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland’s Greenbelt office investigated this case.
