Defense Manufacturer Opens Doors in Germantown

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore joined the ribbon cutting festivities Wednesday, welcoming AeroVironment (AV) Defense Research and Manufacturing Facility to its new offices in Germantown.

The Germantown office  expects to employ 200 people in “well-paying” jobs, according to several officials. This office on Seneca Meadows Parkway joins six other company facilities in Maryland.

The Maryland Department of Commerce’s Advantage Maryland program gave a $1 million conditional loan toward the $12.5 million, 57,000-square-foot facility.

Montgomery County also provided a $100,000 conditional grant through its Economic Development Fund. Another $50,000 was provided through a grant from the Partnership for Workforce Quality program.

AV is a defense technology leader across air, land, sea, space and cyber. The company develops and deploys autonomous systems, advanced cyber and electronic technologies, space-based platforms, and energy systems to meet defense mission needs.

AV’s new facility has advanced engineering labs, production spaces and collaborative environments that will accelerate technologies like its PANTHER phased array antenna, Argus perimeter security system and its artificial intelligence solutions.
