DNA Match Solves Montgomery Village Cold Case

For 23 years, James Lorenzo Greene faced no consequences for his rape, assault and armed robbery of a couple he encountered along Walkers Choice Road in Montgomery Village.

Greene, 49, of Fairmount Heights, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison, with all but 23 years to serve. Upon release, he will be on probation for five years and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The crimes occurred on July 26, 2000, when Greene met the couple around 2 a.m. After he robbed them at gunpoint, he ordered the man to lie face down on the ground while he raped the woman.

The County Police Cold Case Detectives submitted evidence from the crime scene in August of 2023. A DNA profile was extracted by the Combined DNA Index System. When that DNA matched to Greene, he was arrested in September of 2023.

State’s Attorney John McCarthy commented on the case, “We are grateful that after 25 years, the victim in this case is finally seeing a resolution. We thank the Montgomery County Cold Case Unit for its dedication to seeking justice.”
