About 10 years after the disappearance of 2-year-old Jacob and 3-year-old Sarah Hoggle, their mother has been arrested and charged with their murder.
Catherine Ashley Hoggle, 38, of Clarksburg, was indicted Thursday by a grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder.
She was arrested Aug. 1 in Kent County, Maryland, after state officials learned she had been discharged from the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center on July 23. Hoggle is scheduled for a bond review hearing at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Court.
The Children
The two children were last seen with their mother on Sept. 7. 2014. Shortly after the children’s disappearance, Catherine Hoggle, who suffers from schizophrenia, was charged with misdemeanor child neglect. She was repeatedly found incompetent to stand trial.
Since the children were reported missing, Montgomery County Police, along with multiple partner agencies, have conducted extensive searches in hopes of locating the children. They have not been found.
Initial Charges
Hoggle was initially charged with child neglect, obstruction, and later, murder. However, she was found incompetent to stand trial citing mental health issues. She was civilly committed to a psychiatric facility.
Following her release earlier this month, Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy convened the grand jury.
Current Status
She currently is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, pending a bond hearing.
Sarah and Jacob Hoggle remain missing, and the circumstances surrounding their disappearance are still unsolved.
