Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week starts Sunday, August 10. It offers tax breaks on select shoes and clothing.
The annual event runs through Saturday, August 16. The goal is to help families get ready for the school year. It allows shoppers to avoid the state’s 6% sales tax on clothing and shoes under $100 as well as the first $40 for backpacks.
“As costs continue to go up, shopping during the sales tax holiday is a great way to keep money in the pockets of hardworking Marylanders and help their budgets go further,” Comptroller Brooke Lierman said.
The annual sales tax holiday was established by state law in 2007.
Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda celebrates with two back-to-school themed events.
