No Plans for a Bodyguard for MCPS Superintendent

Fairfax County Public Schools wants to hire a bodyguard for Superintendent Michelle Reid, according to news first reported by WJLA. The job of Executive Protection Agent pays a salary of between $85,000 a year and $143,000, depending on the candidate’s experience.

MCM checked with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to see if a similar security position exists. “MCPS doesn’t have anyone in role like that,” according to a district spokesperson.

The job listing, which was closed Aug. 5, said the person “is responsible for ensuring the personal safety, security, and operational continuity of the division superintendent across school campuses, public events, official travel, and private residences. This role requires discretion, professionalism, proactive risk management, and continuous coordination with internal stakeholders and external partners, including law enforcement.”

MCPS has 211 schools and about 160,000 students. There are about 26,000 employees in this, the largest school district in Maryland. The current operating budget sits at $3.2 billion.

In comparison, 199 Fairfax County schools educate nearly 183,000 students with more than 25,000 fulltime staff members. Its operating budget comes in at $4 billion.
